At Violet Gray, we have always believed in creating beautiful pieces that hold meaning, jewellery designed to feel intentional, personal, and endlessly wearable.
Our growing 14ct Gold Vermeil collection is part of that story. It allows us to create refined, high-quality jewellery that feels considered and accessible, without compromising on craftsmanship or aesthetic integrity.

So, what is Gold Vermeil?
Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a technique where a thick layer of genuine gold is applied over solid sterling silver.
For Violet Gray, that means:
- An extra-thick 3 micron layer of 14ct gold which is thicker and more durable than standard vermeil (many brands use 2–2.5 microns).
- A 925 sterling silver base, chosen for its strength, integrity and weight.
- A finish that carries the warmth and tone of solid gold, without the solid-gold price point.
Why we choose it
In 2025, we introduced Gold Vermeil through the Sapphire & Opal AIRE Collection as an intentional expansion of our offering. After focusing exclusively on solid gold for more than five years, we wanted to create jewellery that could be experienced by more people.
Each Violet Gray Vermeil piece carries the same care and consideration as our solid gold designs, crafted by hand, thoughtfully finished, and created to be loved.

Caring for your Gold Vermeil
Like all precious materials, Vermeil will last longest when treated with love.
To preserve its radiance, avoid all exposure to water, perfume, lotions, and cleaning agents. Remove before swimming, showering, or exercising, and store in a dry, soft pouch when not worn. Gently polish with a lint-free cloth to maintain its shine.
Your 14k Gold Vermeil piece has been made for longevity and ease - when cared for appropriately, it will age beautifully.
